Amazon Description

"Over in the meadow, in the sand, in the sun,/Lived an old mother turtle and her little turtle one./"Dig!" said the mother./"I dig," said the one./So he dug all day,/In the sand, in the sun." With Keats's vibrant collage art, the animals in this classic counting rhyme are given a brand new life.

One Potato Review

Ezra Jack Keats in Eric Carle territory here. This creator of ragged urban environments and the children who use them as playgrounds, lends his earthy, swirly palate to scenes of crickets, frogs, and (most memorably) fireflies. Some mothers take care of two offspring, and some six or seven, but the verse in this telling is light and diverting, and the wildlife sufficiently graceful, you might not remember you’re counting.
