Amazon Description

Stella and her little brother are spending the day at the beach. Stella has been to the seashore before and knows all its secrets, but Sam still has a lot of questions. Does a moonsnail come from the moon? What can you buy with a sand dollar? Stella has answers for them all. The only thing she's not sure about is whether Sam will ever come into the water. Through exquisite watercolors, this book brings to life a perfect summer day and the sweet and funny relationship between an older sister and her baby brother.

One Potato Review

Consider the proposition that children are usually a heck of lot more interesting when they don’t know they’re being watched. Stella and Sam are both charming, but they don’t seem to care what you think. It’s a pretty neat trick that Gay has pulled off. Each of these natural explorations - of snow, sky, forest and sea - will probably ring true to parents and children familiar with some of the many variations of fearfulness - and whatever it is that replaces it. There’s not a false page here. Stella’s orange hair alone is possibly enough to sustain the attention of very young readers, but the unaffected companionship represented in these pages is a valuable reminder for every age.
